You can use the Query Designer in Report Builder to specify the data that you want to use in a report. If you have SQL and scripting skills you can customize SQL queries within Report Builder, but it is often just as quick to follow the UI and use the wizards. You can create simple or complex reports very quickly through wizards and an intuitive interface. Similar in look and feel to Microsoft Word, it is a comfortable environment for users of other Microsoft Office tools. What is Report Builder?Īccording to Microsoft, “Report Builder provides data visualizations that include charts, maps, sparklines, and data bars that can help produce new insights well beyond what can be achieved with standard tables and charts. When this happens, instead of using SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), I can use Report Builder to create a reporting project and make quick edits to an existing report or dashboard from another workstation. Why would you want to install Report Builder? I must admit that I don’t use Report Builder an awful lot, but I find it particularly useful when I can’t access my own laptop.
